Quasquicentennial Oak, Morning, color

Etching with aquatint. Image size: 9” high x 12” wide. Paper size: 11” high x 15” wide.

A study in fresh beginnings. The sun rises on a new day, burning through the fog from the riverbed. David’s iconic Paso Robles Oak, near Golden Hill Road, soaks up the rays as it has for countless days.

The line thicknesses vary widely; the result of three completely separate hard ground etches. These were followed by two aquatint tones (and bare plate, of course).

12 one of a kind, color prints will be available (6 hand-colored and 6 colored ink à la poupée). The hand-colored prints are printed with one (or two) colored inks, then further colored with watercolor paint. The print above was printed à la poupée, a technique for making color prints by applying different ink colors to one printing plate. In this print, David mixed six colors and carefully applied them before wiping the excess ink from the plate.

30% of the purchase price benefits the Friends of the Paso Robles Library. Please contact David to purchase or for more information. Prices do not include sales tax and shipping.
