Shedding Winter’s Coat

Oil painting. 10” high x 20” wide. With frame: 13” high x 23” wide.

Exhibited in Simple Pleasures, Paso Robles Art Association exhibit, January 6 – February 27, 2024.

A buckskin beauty grazes in the grass and wildflowers on a late March day. The challenge of this painting was capturing the spaciousness and depth of the meadow, and the contrast of the casual unkempt coat with the texture of the foreground flowers. Translucent layers, textural (impasto) brushwork, and dry brushed color in the background convey the fresh effects of the early spring day.
