A study in the contortions of relaxation. The model for this print was Buffy the Labradoodle when she was a puppy. Her mom was a yellow Labrador, her dad an apricot poodle.

This is a drypoint, in which the image is incised into a plate with a hard-pointed tool (“needle”). In this case, the lines are scratched into a plexiglas plate, printed in a dark brown ink, and then colored with watercolor (a raw sienna mix) to match Buffy’s fur. When hand-coloring is introduced, prints become one-of-a-kind.
