13th Street Bridge Expansion

Oil painting. 12” high x 24” wide. With frame: 15” high x 27” wide.

Exhibited in Earthtones, Paso Robles Art Association exhibit, March 2 – April 30, 2024.

Looking east across the Salinas riverbed, construction has begun on the 13th Street Bridge expansion project. This is the “pile driving” phase, in which vertical supports are driven into the soil. David captured the depth of the scene and the heat and brightness so characteristic of the Paso Robles summer. The paint has been applied in a relatively opaque passages with some textural brushwork and dry brush effects. Most of all, this painting is meant to be fun, with the beautiful lavender shadow lending a complementary pop to the yellow crane. Despite being a “dry” subject, it rewards closer inspection.
